In October of 2008, local business owner Todd Mundhenke, and restaurant entrepreneur Nathan Mundhenke purchased the newly-remodeled Golden Steer Steakhouse from a group of local investors known as the Ainsworth Beef Club. The Ainsworth Beef Club and Robert Joseph were instrumental in bringing the Golden Steer Steakhouse back to life, and the Mundhenke Family looks to carry on their vision.
The Golden Steer brings with it a very storied past, including the old bar in the back, the numerous events held by previous owners Al Shipps and Junior Weander, and of course, the infamous Golden Steer statue which adorned the roof of the steakhouse for many years.
Many things have changed over the years. The Golden Steer has received a facelift. The steer statue on the roof is no longer there (for now……). We now have many new TV’s and LOTS of Nebraska Cornhusker memorabilia.
The one thing which HAS stayed constant is the Golden Steer’s commitment to providing the best in aged Nebraska Certified Angus beef, and the commitment to providing a great dining atmosphere with friendly, knowledgeable service.
Nathan Mundhenke graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1996, and recently moved back to Ainsworth from Chicago, 2 years ago. Nathan brings 13 years of restaurant, hotel/resort, and country club management experience with him. His experiences include a Director of Restaurants and Bars position at Hilton’s Indian Lakes Resort, a Restaurants and Bars Manager position at Pheasant Run Resort, as well as management and supervisory positions at Shawnee Country Club, Tallgrass Country Club, Lincoln Country Club and Hillcrest Country Club. Nathan is dedicated to providing Golden Steer customers the best in fine fare and service on every stop.
Whether it’s a wedding rehearsal dinner, a birthday party, or just a night out with friends, the Golden Steer staff can make your event as memorable as ever. In addition to dine-in and carryout service, the Golden Steer is also licensed to cater any function you may have. Stop in the Golden Steer for the best in Nebraska beef, and find out why our motto is “No Sack Lunch!!!”
